Paul Bagan, BA '82

Owner, J. Paul Bagan & Associates Offering Dale Carnegie Training

Paul Bagan was raised in Bloomington, Minnesota and moved to San Jose, CA in 1976. He graduated from Gunderson High in 1977 and San Jose State University with a BA in Communication Studies in 1982. He has lived in the Almaden Valley of San Jose since 1984 and is married with two children, who both attend school in the San Jose Unified School District. Mrs. Bagan is a 7th grade teacher for San Jose Unified School Districtstrict. Paul is quite active in the community. He was a pass board member for Junior Achievement, an advisor to Leadership Sunnyvale, a pass member of Campbell Kawanis, and a contributor to West Valley College's Puente Program. Paul also volunteer's his time each year to the Almaden Wine and Arts Festival, which is an annual charity event that raises thousands of dollars each year for local schools and charities. In addition, he is a charter member of Success Builders International and the Greater San Jose Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, both are nonprofit organization designed for entrepreneurs and small business owners. He is currently a much in demand speaker, facilitator, business coach and trainer to many of the valley's top companies and professional organizations. Paul is a certified multiple course instructor-trainer; a distinction held by only 8% of all Dale Carnegie Instructors worldwide.

Gisela Bengfort-Piatti

Gisela Bengfort-Piatti

With a broad range of business experience built-up in the last 20 years, Gisela worked for Becton Dickinson, Anderson Consulting and other known companies in Switzerland. She started her own company as a food entrepreneur in Texas. She is fluent in 5 languages and enjoys traveling around the globe. She has a Bachelor in Business from Zurich, Switzerland. Her hobbies are: hiking, biking, skiing and yoga and she resides in San José with her husband Joe and children.

 

 

Carol DeChellis, BS '01 and BA ‘05

Certified Public Accountant

Finance Policy and Interpretation Manager, Applied Materials
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Carol graduated from San Jose State University in 2001 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, concentration in Accounting, and in 1995 earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She has over ten years of technical accounting and finance experience from companies such as Applied Materials, NVIDIA Corporation, KPMG LLP, and Calpine Corporation.
While she was in school, she participated in Beta Alpha Psi Fraternity, holding the position of Alumni Coordinator and earned the 2001 Beta Alpha Psi scholarship. Outside of work, Carol likes to donate blood to the Stanford Blood Center and volunteer. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, working on projects around the house, traveling, and spending some time outdoors walking, rollerblading, and snowboarding.

Juan Escobar

Juan EscobarCurrently a student at SJSU, Juan plans to graduate in December of 2008

with a major in Accounting and minor in Radio-TV-Film. He has served in COBAN as a student representative on the Board for a semester now, and is currently President of the Latino Business Student Association (LBSA) student organization in the College of Business. He hopes to develop a career in HR, as well as continuing his work with non-profits, professional organizations and college groups dedicated to growing and motivating the Latino community to advance in business, education and community service for years to come.

 

David Heagerty, BA '50

Chairman, The Coakley-Heagerty Companies Advertising and Public Relations

Dave is a 40 plus year marketing communications veteran and Chairman of The Coakley-Heagerty Companies, Silicon Valley's oldest advertising and public relations firm, named sixth largest in The Business Journal's ranking of agencies for 2001. A 1950 Journalism graduate of San Jose San Jose State, he served as President of the National Alumni Association in 1957, the College's centennial year. Dave is a longtime Spartan Foundation supporter and active in numerous community projects and programs. Particularly proud of his 30-year plus Rotary service, Dave has been involved in the club, district and international levels, and served as President of the downtown San Jose Rotary and then as the region's District Governor.

Bill Hult, BS '66

Community Volunteer

Bill is retired from IBM. After leaving the Santa Teresa Software Development Laboratory in 1993, Bill became Applied Materials Santa Clara Regional Facilities Services Manager. In 1998 Bill began a three-year role with Greater Bay Bancorp as Manager of Facilities Services and Real Estate. Bill is in his tenth year with Big Brothers Big Sisters Santa Clara Valley Board of Directors, where he was Chairman of the board for two consecutive terms. Bill is currently Board of Directors President of Neighborhood Housing Services Silicon Valley; Treasurer of Board of Directors for Las Cumbres Conservation Corporation; Secretary of the Supervisory Committee for Meriwest Credit Union; and, on the Finance Committee for Cystic Fibrosis Research Institute. Bill has engaged in numerous community service activities, from Volunteer Firefighter to Lakeside School District Superintendent Selection Committee. Bill and his wife Vicci, who is also an SJSU grad, have been long time supporters of the Spartan Foundation. With their sons and daughters-in-law residing in Menlo Park and Burlingame, they immensely enjoy their grandchildren.

Arthur L. Jue, BS '92

Director, Global Organization and Talent Development, Oracle Arthur has extensive managerial and technical experience at companies such as IBM and Hyperion. He also serves on boards of directors for financial services, educational, and non-profit organizations. Arthur earned a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership and an MBA with emphasis in Technology Management. He attended BYU and graduated from SJSU in 1992 as Outstanding Graduating Senior, with a B.S. in Business/Marketing and a Music Minor. While at SJSU, he served as its first Phi Kappa Phi Student Chapter President. Dr. Jue has participated in executive programs at the London Business School, Harvard, and Oxford. He is Chair of Business Leadership for the International Leadership Association and currently serves as Chair of the Academy of Management’s MSR Doctoral Consortium. His writing has been featured in publications such as the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship and by organizations such as the Association for Employment Practices and Principles and the Academy of Management. Recent works include a special edition of the Journal of Human Values (Sage, 2007), contributions to the 2008 Pfeiffer Annual: Management Development (Wiley, 2007), and Leadership Moments: Turning Points That Changed Lives and Organizations (Trafford, 2007). In addition, he serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Management, Spirituality, and Religion. Arthur is a University of Phoenix faculty member, has been a missionary in New Zealand, is an Eagle Scout, and enjoys playing the violin.

Brad Maihack, BS '78

Brad Maihack Controller, Hewlett-Packard Management Software Business

Brad is a 1978 graduate from San Jose State University and holds Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, concentration in Accounting. He has managed Hewlett-Packard's San Jose State business recruiting and campus relationship activities for over twelve years. Brad's work has resulted in more SJSU students being hired into HP than from any from any other college in the United States. SJSU continues to be a large benefactor of equipment, cash and executive time contributions because of Brad's ongoing sponsorship. Brad's career at Hewlett Packard has spanned 31 years and he is currently the chief financial executive for their Open View Software Business Unit. Prior to his current position, Brad held Controller positions in a broad range of HP business operations which included Internet Business Unit, IC Semiconductor business, Systems Technology Group, Mid-range Commercial Systems business, and System Peripheral and Mass Storage operation. Prior to becoming a controller, Brad held a series of increasingly senior financial management roles throughout Hewlett Packard's Computer, Test and Measurement businesses. Brad and his wife, Marcia, have been married for thirty-one years and have two sons, Brian and Steven . They reside in Los Altos where they are active in community sports and theatre programs.

Dan Moors

Accounting and Audit Team, Berger Lewis

Principal and Head of the Accounting and Audit Department at BERGER/LEWIS, Dan combines his passion for accounting with his focus on nonprofit organizations, service and construction companies, as well as, early stage start-up and high-tech industry-related companies. Dan's real world accounting skills were developed during his four years of experience in the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District as senior accountant, after graduating from San Jose State University . He has been in public accounting for twelve years. Dan exemplifies the qualities our clients demand in our firm's leaders.

Alan Ota

Director, Strategic Business Development, Hewlett-Packard Company

Alan Ota is Director of HP Software Strategic Business Development in the Global Alliances Organization and is responsible for managing the Business Technology Optimization Inbound and Outbound OEM portfolio, forecast and budget as well as developing new revenue streams leveraging HP SW 3rd party partners. The Strategic Business Development team has been in existence since February of 2007 and directly affects HP SW’s top and bottom line. Prior to this role Alan was the Director of the HP SW Integration team (M&A) that planned and executed the integration of acquired companies into HP Software. Acquisitions are a key piece of completing the HP SW strategy and creating differentiation versus HP's key competitors. The team successfully integrated eight software companies into HP since its inception in the spring of 2003. Alan also has experience as a Product Line Manager and has held various other positions growing small hardware and software products/solutions into more mainstream and high growth HP businesses. This includes alliances, business development and program management responsibilities.

Board Advisor

Rod Diridon, BS '61, MS '63

Executive Director, The Mineta Institute for Surface Transportation Policy Studies, created by Congress in 1991 and operating at San Jose State University

Rod served 23 years in elected office with the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Transit Board and has led transit projects at the local, regional, state, national and international level. He is credited with returning rail to the Silicon Valley. He has served as chair of over 50 local and national organizations. The main San Jose train station is dedicated the San Jose Diridon Station. Rod was the 1983 College of Business Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient and a charter member of our Association. He served as our organization’s President for two terms from 1996 to 1998.
